Henry
Age: 16 months in video, 2 1/2 years now
We taught Henry to read when he was very young. This video was shot when he was just 16 months old. We taught Henry ASL to help him better communicate with us before he was speaking, but also to know what he was able to read as he couldn''t pronounce most of the words he was reading! We watched a lot of Signing Time! episodes on TV and bought the Baby Signing Time DVDs. We stopped counting how many words he could sign after 200. Now that he is 2 1/2 years old, he doesn''t need to sign to communicate as his speech is excellent, but we still sign a few words sometimes for fun. His reading is amazing -- he can now read a children''s picture book on his own. I''m convinced that teaching him to sign and read at the same time helped him to gain both skills very quickly.
Bennett
Age: 10 months
Bennett is the youngest of our three children- all of which have signed. He started signing at 10 months and while very verbal now at 23 months he still enjoys signing. I know that signing enhanced his verbal skills and have loved the journey!
Audrey
Age: 12 months
I took classes while pregnant, but have been too busy since baby was born to attend. Both mom and dad have been signing with the baby when they can though, and she seems to have picked up some of it!
